Many different threads have discussed various party formations and their advantages/disadvantages. My thought: what has been YOUR favorite party you have created/run. This can be a party that made it to AP or died when facing Gregor. And let us know the reasons it was/is your favorite: absolute power party, mix of magic/strength, most challenging, most diverse - whatever the reason. this will also help newbies come up with varrying parties to begin their adventures with. I'll begin with mine:

dracon Fighter
felpur rogue
mook ranger
gnome mage
(??) bishop
hobbit samuri
(Vi)
(rfs)

Why? This was my first party to ascend. In addition to that, it was a good balance of many aspects of the game. the bishop specialized in priest and offensive spells while the ranger allowed me to discover all the 'hidden' goodies scattered throughout the game (plus i really enjoyed his instant kills at upper levels). I used most of the NPCs available to me, having a particular affinity for Vi because she traveled with me the most (once she joined, i refused to go anywhere she wouldn't go until i felt confident enough in the game to leave her behind). the samuri allowed me to practice with a hybrid and while he was not the most effective he could have been, i learned a great deal. the mage was cool for all the spells she could cast and she had a saucy voice that made it enjoyable as well. rogues are now my favorite class for a variety of reasons, and the fighter was pure force and power and used many of the weapons and armor available.

Glad you asked I do have an All-time-favourite-party, and I'm more than willing to tell you about it. You can easily see that I like to develop more complex characters...

Vi and RFS-81

I considered a Lord, but on my 2nd way through the game I knew about Vi, so I dropped him and took her instead. She's really doing well with the Sword-from-the-lake, but her magic also is really nice. I especially like to force her into Rapax Castle, her complains are cool As the daughter of you-know-who, I couldn't possibly leave her behind, so I grabbed her as early as possible. I didn't pursue the story after that, but went directly to the mine tunnels and repaired the robot, so I would have my party together as early as possible in the game, so I could develop all by myself. The metal man is really good for 3-27 laughs in the game, in particular his insane laugh is hilarious. He's a good fighter with his bare hands, throws Pandaemonium powder and doesn't complain to much if he has to use the tickle-your-enemy-to-death feather darts for a while.

One reason I choose these two is that they follow you almost everywhere and so are really a part of the party, not just part-time-co-workers.

Marax -- Fellpur Samurai

As a samurai, I didn't just develop him as a fighting machine, but also a good caster. He's got the *Thingie in stars* and dual wields with an enchanted wakizashi, also doing lots of crits. He can cast Nuclear Blast on Level 7 and says "another one bites the dust" when one of his comrades ... bites the dust Particularly nice about him is that he almost never goes insane, even with prismatic gazers (Btw, I learned from him that I didn't want a Mage ever, the spells are just too limited; as a Samurai, of course, he's never to be bored, because he can actually fight, but without that...). I think he got the most kills of the party, about 1/3 more then the next.

Shevani - Faerie Ninja

You know the weapon. Dual wielding with a ... whatever hexes your enemy sometimes. No ranged weapons, of course, but the really good alchemistic spells, especially death cloud is really worth all the money. She wasn't really good until I killed the Don, but after that, of course, everything changed.

Aria - Hobbit Bard/Ranger

My only dual classed. A Bard is a MUST for every party of mine, I just need to use that stuff one finds. And the Poet's Lute really saved my **** in the monastery At level 18, I changed her to a ranger, but I'm not sure if it was a good decision. The Level-18-Instruments aren't worth much now, because she uses them at a too low power level, so I could just have changed her earlier. Then again, I'd be sad to have but not to use those, so I didn't really have much of a choice. A ranger seemed like a good idea, and her ranged abilities really ARE a good help (especially the critical hits, which come quite often). But somehow I feel I'd be happier with all... "pure" characters, for also the battles have been quite easy for some time, I don't really needed that added punch.

Bobo - Hobbit Gagdeteer

Gadgeteers - what a GREAT idea of the makers of w8. Building that stuff is so much fun (using it as well ), and the omnigun is SO mighty. I just run out of Ammo quite often, and even with two Carryall-Bracers he can't cary 2x100 stones. But really, he's so much fun, and "I feel an imbalance in my life force" is a cool way to say "Ouch".

Marduk and Tiamat - Faerie Bishops

I just had to have 2 Bishops. Both have all 4 spell books developed, and they're really awesome with that. With powercast nearing 100, I don't have to mind resistances very much, and with their hight initiative I can get up the 2 shield spells early enough most of the time. Of course, they're also the money-makers as their alchemy skill still has to get 2-3 points They have really strong weapons in their hands, too, but wouldn't hit a stone wall from 1 m distance. But hey, Tiamat has that really cute female voice, when she's scared and say "Oh no!", it's so cute, I just have to help her (of course, a level 31 bishop doesn't really need MY help, but instincts are instincts after all).

I really took my time with this party, wandered around a lot and discovered the world (after I got the 2 NPC's, that is). Sad, the game's to short, but I got so much used to them, so I'm wandering around at AP and bash some monsters. All of them are around level 31-33, maybe I'll make it to 50 before I die Great game, and great forum as well!

Cheers
Philipp

For my favorite party, i went back to W-7 and created this foursome with the intent (which was successful) of going on through W-8:
Rawulf Lord (Light/DE); Hobbit Samurai (Muramasa/E.Wak); Elf Monk (Zato) and Faerie Ninja (Cane). NO RPCS.
This was my fave for a number of reasons, but mostly it's just the easiest foursome because everyone has high damage and all the Schools of Magic are covered--it's the most efficient way i found to go through both W-7 and W-8.
Unfortunately, the top-end equipment doen't import, but there's a lot of lovely stuff that does, and 20% of all but magical Skill scores imports, too.
Gotta have a Ninja, for PP/L&T, and i just think the Cane is fun, so i went with the FN, even though i prefer Hobbits most of the time for Ninja.

Lizard fighter, Dracon fighter, Mook Ranger, Rawulf Bishop, Gnome/Elf Bishop (either), Hobbit Rogue. This is a power party, pure and simple. The other classes were fun, but this is the group that did (does) best overall.

basically, pick two of fighter/rogue/bard and pair them with a bishop and something else (monk is a strong favourite of mine). small, balanced on the melee side. for example:

lizzie or dracon fighter
hobbit rogue
mook bard
elf bishop

if a monk, then human or elf.

lizzie fighter
elf ranger
faerie bishop
hobbit bard (female of course)

I think it is an interesting party to play, the bard would have to be lockpicking, and the bishop would have to up healin fast, until dulcimr is found. This is my current party, just made it past Nessie at lvl 14.

This is the first party I played since I had enough of Wiz8 over a year ago... (finished more then a dozen times with all kinds of parties).

Rawulf Lord + Dwarf Valkyrie Tanks + priests
Elf Mage + Gnome Alchemist best offensive spellbooks, early portals
Human Gadgy + Hobbit Bard to use all the instruments, great support

in the end: 4 with portals, 4 with heal all, 3 with ressurection, 3 with restoration, 3 with superman, all protective spells + haste (bard)...

Unbeatable... (my mage was killed over 20 times...all togeteher over 35 deads)
ended game at lvl 22-24 on ironman...

Edited: submitted incomplete post...

My favorite party at the moment is my "Assassin" party. I wanted to try out an all "Critical Strike" party to see how easy/hard it is to finish the game. The party is as follows:

Yorick Dracon Samurai (Male)
Tamara Felpurr Samurai (Female)
Uriah Human Monk (Male)
Kamika Hobbit Monk (Female)
Raven Human Ninja (Male)
Goku Faerie Ninja (Male)

Yorick is using Bloodlust/wakashazi (sp?)
Tamara Broadsword/wakashazi/long bow
Uriah martial arts/sling
Kamika Bo/sling
Raven Awlpike/throwing weapons/sling (when he runs out of throwing weapons)
Goku Bo/longbow

I decided not to do throwing with Goku since he'll be using the Cane as soon as I can get it and won't be able to use any ranged attacks after that anyway.

I have just started this party, so I am not far into the game yet. We just got to arnika in fact, but they are all doing really well so far. Both Ninja's and and the Monk's are getting Instant skills about every 3rd battle and Tamara gets lightening strike about 3-4 times every single battle. These guys really work well together. Raven and Kamika are on opposite flanks with Goku in the middle. Yorick, Tamara and Uriah are up front and Myles and Vi are in the rear. I found it was safer sticking Myles in the back out of harms way because he seems to be the one whom ends up being target practise with all enemies and for some reason when he is a member of any of my parties he tends to be weak. Haven't figured that one out because if he joins a battle when not a member of my band he fights really well? I am developing Yorick, Kamika and Goku's magic because they will be weilding cursed weapons so will have no ranged attacks. I haven't decided if I'm going to bother developing Uriah, Tamara and Raven's magic or not. I may do, just to have all the extra portals, but to be honest, I am more fond of Melee heavy parties because I have found once you reach about mid game, magic is not all that effective unless the caster has power cast and none of these guys will get power cast until late game I suspect. With this party I am more interested in their Critical Strike abilities than their magic.

Of all the characters, I have to say Raven is my favorite. I gave him the chaotic voice "If it walks, I can change that" and he says the funniest and most insane things all the time lol I never realised until I gave him that voice that there were such "choice" swearing in the game lol I've heard other characters saying "damn" now and then but Raven has used some really choice words on occasions.
