I think juggurnauts (sp?) are useful, but a pain. They are important, after getting wiped out by them a few times, to increase your melee abilities. I see lots of stats go up after a long battle. I know, they don't give much experience points (XP) but they are worth fighting for the melee. You need to be lev 10 or higher tho to survive.
Second idea: the orbs in Arnika are rated too high. Easy to kill and you get the opposite of the jugs: much experience. I think the guys were thinking about "missle shield" as being a good learning idea. Same with the death apuses or whatever. The ghosts in Marten's Bluff really make you want to have soul shield. You can see where I am going with this. Of course, some critters seem to have no redeeming value. Some of them you just want to avoid (not too fond of millipedes or death rays). Any other examples of why the critters are there? Most of them make you stronger, some are just a nuisance.

To some extent i have to think the mobs all have some random element to the determinations (eg how much XP they should be worth, etc.)
Another interesting thing to me is the way they range so much in HP on the same level beastie. Especially in the lower levels, one group can have twice the HP of an otherwise equal group (eg Seekers at L3 and 5, Nox. Slimes esp at L3, and some of the lower Crabs, too) and yet there's no difference in the XP reward. And whadda bout the automatic bounty system??? |

Not sure about the "automatic bounty system", Scatter. I guess you mean the gold but correct me if it is something else. The gold is random to some degree, within a range for the beast. I also thing that the HP are random for a group of critters. I kind of like that, they are not all the same. You can target them by their HP. I think Sir-Tech did a good job on where to put the randomness, but it can be puzzling. There are other mysteries I want to bring up, I guess I'l use this thread as I think of them. (One might be that the Dark Savant is Vi's grandfather.... what?)

good observations, zig.
it's funny how, just as you get comfortable that you can handle those tough melee fights (eg juggernauts), you run into some stronger ranged attackers (eg viper frogs). and so on. it almost feels like you dont get a chance to enjoy your successes - but i guess survival isnt about sititng on your laurels, eh? more kudos to the developers. |
