I never tried the spell the first time I finished the game.. I thought it sounded kinda cool, so I decided to go with it, this time around.

I was in the rapax rift, in the long hallway with the 2 teleporters.. I had about 13-15 enemies around me, and I threw an asphyxiation-spell.. 11-12 of them vanished (as in "died?").. Do you really get xp for these "kills"? I mean, you're not really doing anything, you throw 1 behemoth of a spell that wipes out all life in the vicinity and you're supposed to get credit for the kill?

Personally I think it's illogical, but on the other hand I also love it, seeing as it gives great xp for not doing anything. I can get 100K xp for each fight, lasting about 2 minutes in that particular area.. I suggest you give it a try. My team is lvl 19-20, and I get monsters ranging from lvl 15-21, so the xp is good for each monster. When in a group, and beaten to death with asphyxiation, the xp is fantastic..

I still find it hard to believe you get xp for killing them with that spell.. Too bad it fizzles a little bit too often, even though my air spell-lvl is very high, and my power cast is in the 80s or something.

Yep, you kill it, you get the experience. Same with quicksand, death wish, death cloud, etc. Late in the game, these are the best spells to use.

Quicksand is a terribly effective 6th level alchemist spell. So far as I know, you can't buy the book; you have to use a spell pick.

There's a link floating around the BB for a spreadsheet that tells you what you need to learn a spell, but it's basically a 75 in alchemy (or a 65 in alchemy with 100 in earth magic--with lots of 10% variations in between).

Oh,

And the more direct answer to your question is that your bishop won't have access to the spell until 14th level.

Psionics don't learn quicksand.

Why do you think that the spell is illogical?? You have learn the spell and your power cast is high and then that is a spell like all other that kills enemy`s!! But it fizzle wery mutch in the beginning but it is greate when it first work on high level casting grade!
And you get xp when you smash them down with an sword or you use spells that is no different about that a dead enemy is an dead enemy and you get the xp!

Uhh, well, what's the deal? I have Powercast about 80, and casting Quicksand level 7 rarely kills someone. Asphyxiation is yet to come, but you can get it from a gadget, and that's not really effective, especially against Rapax... What level of difficulty do you have? I guess that has an influence...

Never forget your towel, cheers

Yes instant kill spells rarely work on expert difficulty. From what I've heard they're quite effective on lower difficulty settings though (I never use those).

Well.. I'm still what morons would refer to as a "n00b" (grrr!!) so I think I'm playing at one of the lowest difficulties..

The illogical part: IMO you should get more experience, from swinging a sword back and forth 300 times, than casting 1 spell which wipes out everything.. Maybe it's MY logics which aren't any damn good, but I would assume you would get more experience on the battlefield instead of sitting in an office pressing a red button, releasing a nuclear bomb on the target..

Sure, [wcip]Angel, you're right. And this is also mimiked (though not 100% consequently, but I like it the way it is...) by the fact that a large part of the development of your party falls into practise that has nothing to do with experience. If you wipe out all monsters with one spell, your party won't end up as capable as one, that has used varying strategies and battled for hours.

Never forget your towel, cheers
