So far, he's my toughest fight. And then he went poof, leaving nothing but experience. Hardly worth hanging around to fight him, except that Kivan died near the archeology dig, and we had to salvage his posessions. But it took a LOT of reloads before I did it. And then Thalantyr only gave me a pittance at High Hedge for the goodie.

"Shut up!", Thalantyr explained.

You want a fun fight? With the most xp for a single enemy? Try and kill Shandolar when you get back from the ice cavern. The real trick is to do it without killing any civilians.

Well, my hat's off to you, O Strange Snarkely One. I never could defeat that darn Doomsayer.

But I've come up with a rather devious plan this time around.

If you have enabled the "cheat" codes, you can summon Drizzt to fight for you. I plan to call on him and send him into melee with the beast. Hopefully, he will be killed in the process, but will do enough damage for me to finish the Doomsayer off. That way, I get access to his handy dandy swords and armor AND I haven't violated my alignment.

OK, so it's cheesy......but it'll also be FUN!

Theoretically, his equipment SHOULD drop if he gets killed. I know it works in BG2 (although I haven't done it myself). Some players have gotten the "drow items" after leaving the Underdark by simply summoning a drow warrior and killing him. Since the drow brought the items to the surface, they don't disintegrate.

The Doomsayer probably will be much easier now that I understand the game mechanics better. On my first journey, I think it took about 3 days of playing for me to actually get through the Nashkell Mines. This time, I cleared them in a couple of hours. I have a much better strategy and battle plan this time through, so the fights aren't nearly so tough.

Another example was the Gnoll Stronghold. I lost count of how many times I had to re-load that game before finally finding Dynaheir. This time, I managed to wipe them out with missile weapons before they ever closed to melee.

And I DO plan to put a tank in front of him - that's what Drizzt is for. I just don't plan to "waste" any healing potions on him.

Well, that is certainly disappointing.

Thanks for the information HiyoCherryo. Guess I'll have to try it on my own. {sigh}

Kivan was dead, and we didn't want to lose his goodies to termites while we raised him at a temple. Jaheira summoned critters to keep him busy; then cast lightning. My fighter and Khalid whacked him with magic swords, each buffed with a potion of fire giant strength. Xan fired magic missiles from a scroll.
Imoen couldn't help much. I suppose I could have tried a stab with her.

Maybe I just went to more places, finished more quests, and had more experience when I met the Doomsayer but I didn't find him that difficult to defeat.
