Hey guys, I completed IWD today, so I'm pretty chuffed.

My party was:

Human Paladin
Elven Ranger
Dwarven Fighter
Halfling Theif
Human Necro
Human Cleric

So Give it up for me!!!

Question:

If I was too buy HOW, would I have to restart the game and play it all over again? Or would it take my current party from somewhere (before the final fight like in BG:TotSC)??

Congrats!!!!!

You have three options:

(1) take your existing party (the one you finished IWD with) and start an expansion-only game that will take you through HOW only. The game will end when you kill the end-boss of HOW.

(2) take your existing party and restart IWD and play through BOTh IWD and HOW (hopefully resetting the difficulty to something more in keeping with your powerful characters.) When you kill the end boss of HOW you'll be transported back to Kuldahar to finish IWD.

(3) form a NEW party and play through the game again from the beginning and do the entirety of IWD and HOW. Same ending sequence as for option 2.

You probably should download TOL though. YOu can always decide not to play through it the first time, but the item fixes are worth it.

If I was you?

I would load BOTH HOW and TOL and start an expansion only game and play through both of the expansions in one go. (If you decide to do this let me know, and I'll give you a tip about where to initiate TOL.)

Then, I would start a NEW game with first level characters (mostly multi-classed) and switch the difficulty to Heart of Fury and replay thru the entire series!

OOOPs .. neglected to add that in the expansion only game, I would use your existing party.

Lavindathar,

Congrats!

Hey, I have a question: How did your Paladin perform compared to the other guys? Were you glad you brought him along, or were you having thoughts that it would be nice to replace him with someone else?

I completed HoW yesterday, and I was... shocked? In just two days, I managed to complete the expansion on my first try?!?! I entered HoW when my party Necromancer was level 10, and completed HoW at level 14.

The Dragon was defeated by copious amounts of Chain Lightning, Sunfires, Fireballs and a last desperate attempt as my red-life Dwarven tank retreated to join my Archer by hurling a returnable throwing axe with his grandmastery in axes.

The killing blow came from my Halfling Fighter/Thief though, he poked the Dragon to death with the Long Sword, Hold Fast +3. My Archer dealt the killing blow to the Soul Stone.

NobleNick, my paladin was alright.

I think a fighter would have been better (Grand Mastery), but he did have 2 proficiencies in each class., making him very versatile. The only problem was, I dnt like editing my stats to much on roll, so his constitution was 8 or something (terrible for a tank), and his HP was very low throughout the course.

His spells were pretty shit too, he ended up with 1 lay on hands, 1 protection from evil, 1 remove disease, and 11 detect evil.

Wasn't the best...I did have a fighter and a ranger, and I think that both of them outclassed my paladin. Anybody else got any views?
