I hate that damn place! The first 2 levels are ok. I get a lot of cool items. Then I have to go through this maze crap. And then I run into the imps! Those imps made me lose 90k of money! And are such a pain in the @ss. Also those Sirens are annoying too. Im staying far far far away from watchers keep!

the money -loss comes from a random Wild Magic effect in the fight. I hate Wild Magic now ~grrr!~

Just reload and try again - it may not happen next time

Acctually, I was quite dissapointed on Watchers Keep. I had expected something similar to Durlags Tower in BG TotSC. But nay, it was so easy And I was/am far from maximum level.

Wild magic is quite irritating, as is dead magic. Make sure your archers have lots of +3 arrows and don't bother casting any spells.

The imps are in the maze - someplace. There are instructions on how to get out of the maze, but if you want to experience every room, just enter doors at random, eventually you'll cover all of them. And eventually you'll find your way back to the first room - and you can then follow the instructions in Yakman's journal to find your way out.

I found it fairly easy as well. The second level was a bit of a gimme IMO.

Keep in mind that you hit Durlag's Tower at sub-level 8 and characters are not that powerful at that level. With these high-level abilities you can make yourself just about untouchable even at the 20+ level range.

Oh, goooooddddd... don't get me started on Durlag's Tower. There was me, thinking it was just another quest, ho ho, nothing can stop my party, and so on and so forth, so we set out to conquer the tower during Chapter 5, when we were all about level 6. Confidence was to dissolve into utter despair.

I should have got the hint when the ghostly things prowling the OUTSIDE of the keep damn near killed the party. But did I? No... used up our healing spells and carried on into the dungeon.

What followed was two weeks of computer game hell - not frustration, not anger, but pure, honest fear. I'd mistakenly forgotten to save a game prior to entering the Keep, so once we were in, we were in. We battled on, reload after reload, resting up to three times a day to regain our strength after each fight. Paranoia entered my brain as every corridor, every passageway was advanced along, a step at a time, with the trap-detecting Jahiera leading the way. Even then, Imoen simply wasn't able to disarm several traps.

The final battle was, in my view, my finest hour, with serious forward planning, exceptional timing and all manner of devious tactics finally paved the way to victory. I had never been so relieved as when my party finally stumbled back into Ulgoth's Beard, bloody and battered - but hardened by the experience. From that point on, nothing in BG held any terror for me.

By comparison, Watcher's Keep wasn't that hard. I visited it after the fall of Saradush, wanting to get some experience before facing more challenges. Perhaps the lessons I learned in Durlag's Tower aided me - I daresay they did, as I stocked up on enough potions, scrolls, antidotes, weapons and ammo to last several normal game weeks, expecting another hellhole. In the end, it took only three evenings, and the final confrontation with the Imprisoned One lasted a mere thirty-two seconds - and seventeen of those seconds were on pause. I was counting.

Okay so maybe Durlag's tower was way harder. (I hated that place with a passion! Dang battle horrors!) Still the items and experience you get in Watcher's keep make it worth it. Remember that!

If you think the maze is nasty (and it is) then wait till you get to the seal guardians on the final level...Two of the groups of guardians aren't TOO hard to defeat, but the other group - AAAAAGH! It took about 8 elementals, a pit fiend, more or less every spell, potion and +3 arrow I had, and countless reloads to defeat them, and that was after surrounding the place where they teleport in with skull traps, symbols and thief traps. At the end of the battle the entire room was littered with dead summoned skeletons, elementals, golems etc..
Admittedly I visited Watcher's Keep when my party was fairly average-level (12-15), in Chapter 3, a party in ToB after doing all the BG2 quests would probably demolish the seal guardians without blinking an eye!
