Odd HLA problem+other bantery bollocks

Hello all *eerily peers into the murderous emptiness of bhaal's forum*

Just started my second game of ToB and whilst in Saradush completing some subquests, levelled up both Aerie and Viconia to obtain their first HLAs.
I chose energy blades but much to my present befuddlement, can't seem to find the icon to access/use them. I've checked in the obvious places +(special abilities) but nothing. Anyone have a clue what's happening here? I'm hopefully missing something dreadfully obvious.

Otherwise, I have a gnawing itch to reload and try out something else.

Oh and I'm patched to max with the pocketplane banter pack, baldurdash fixes...but nothing else to speak of.

My present party has become increasingly more goaded towards villainy, with my PC receiving an alignment change to Neutral Evil (from TN) at SoA's conclusion.

I had to say farewell to Xan at the end of SoA, who kindly returned all of the items he'd acquired during our travels. This made way for my ol' buddy Edwin, who has only been in the party for under an hour and already he's insulting Aerie darkly, but humourously at one point. Aerie's also had a rather ridiculously surreal exchange with Korgan (a part of the banter pack I'm guessing) where she basically threatened Korgan's nether-regions with some kind of spell (!) after a barrage of misshapen-type insults from the dwarf. However, her outburst seemed extremely out of character to me!
I've read stories that eventually she'll threaten to leave if I don't get rid of Korgy, so I'm probably going to have to start planning for that, though I'm unsure what direction I will go in. I'm leaning towards trying to indignate the puritanical arrogance of Annoyman if he'll join me, (since I've never used him and keeping two characters with clerical abilities would be neat) or simply going for a less magical approach and trying out Valygar.

Ideas in the case of emergency are thus welcome.

energy blades is just like melf acid arrows. It gets automatically equipped as your weapon.
To use simply attack. Don't test it on a party member, unless you're quick with the spacebar finger

Ja.

Takes up a 7th level spell slot, Cleric side. All the Cleric HLAs are "Quest" level spells, reside in 7th level slots.

Thanks for the reminder chaps, I'd gotten them confused with fighter based HLAs, having used Mazzy's whirlwind attack against Irenicus. Can't believe that I'd forgotten they worked just like ruddy spells! Ha!

Think I might go for Storm of Vengeance for the next HLA anyway just to test it - I'm still such a ToB Newbie!

Yeah, Caster HLAs = Spells.

Everyone else = Abilities. (Bard being the exception, dunno if Magic Flute is a Special Ability or a Spell, but the rest of their HLAs are the Theif table)

Fun stuff with multiclasses, you can pick either class's HLA's when you level with any of your classes. Very good for Fighter/Caster multiclasses since you won't be seeing your 7th/9th spell slots in major quantity, allowing you to frontload on Fighter HLAs. (Which can be pretty devastating when combined with clerical buffs.)

I guess this thread could be used for collating a few amusing or recently encountered banters.

Just after creating an absolute bloodbath inside the Gromnir barracks, an amusing banter arose in which Korgan attempted to get all chummy with Edwin:

Korgan:
"Ahh tis a grand ol' fight eh mage? Can you better cap a life than with blood betwixt the toes and the flames of Hell itself! Ha!

Edwin's hysterical reply:
"Would someone please get this bile soaked freak away from me?!" (Brilliant voice acting by Jim Meskimen)

Moments like these is when I think the BG series shines. [img]smile.gif[/img]
