Ive used these various codes with little trouble in my games, but Ive found one that continuously crashes the game...the CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("xxx") code crashes my game whenever I use it to spawn an NPC like Kivan or Jaheira who whoever.....Ive had to use it because, for reasons I wont get into, I find myself with only 3 party members....Montaron and Xzar are dead, as is Khalid and Jaheira, Imoen bit it at the hands of Angelo when we were captured in Baldurs Gate (that kinda pissed me off, he just auto kills a random party member) I REALLY needed her for Durlags tower.....*sigh* Skie wont join me because I lost Eldoth somewhere in the Cloakwoods....Viconia keeps leaving the party every half hour or so, for no apparent reason....no reputation changes or anything and she just says "A welcome release....blah blah" Yeslik is also dead...Alora wouldnt join the party for some strange reason..just kept asking me to watch her back over and over again.....I have Minsc (good old Minsc) and Edwin with me currently...Dynaheir was chunked in some major fight (against Daevorn I think) I havnt met Sharteel anywhere yet and have explored everything...Coran left the party when i got Eldoth, dunno where he went....Faldorn sucks and I wouldnt want her anyways....Xan is wandering somewhere...I dont remember where...and Garrick is dead....hrm....oh, Kivan and Kagain are my only options, as I havnt yet initiated dialogue with them....Kivan should still be next to High Hedge, and Kagain should still be in Beregost....oh, Tiax is useless, I told him to take a hike...same with Quayle....is that everyone? Good gods there are too many NPCs in this game =) Anyways, whenever I try to use the CLUAConsole command to spawn anyone in, as soon as I try to leave the current map it crashes....no assertion or fatal exception OE message, the game just shuts down as if I hit Alt+F4....most strange...now i realize if I tried to use this command on NPCS that were already dead, Global Variables or whatever would be screwy, and that could cause problems...but I dont see why using it on alive NPCs should matter....has anyone had these same troubles and found a way to work around them?

Yeah, that happens for me, it just craps out, and its really annoying. It does say on the site where i got the cheats (Warning, this can cause your game to crash, or crap out)

Um.....you DO know about Raising Dead, right??? And try out this new moral in life: Never let anyone die. I mean it. If any party member bites the big one (unless you intended them to), that's an AUTOMATIC reload from the last save. In something like my last 3 months of play, I have carried only ONE dead body to a temple for a ressurection, and that's when Imoen couldn't quite handle Aec'Letec. I figured one Raise Dead was worth knifing that sucker, so I didn't reload.
As for your CLUA woes, trying to hack an NPC, living or dead, into the game simply does not work, as you've already stated. What if they should meet themselves? Then you'd have this whole "Mirror, Mirror" multiple-universe thing going on, and everyone would turn out to be someone else's cousin, and Darth Vader becomes your dad, and your poor CPU can't cope with all the rendering that suddenly needs to be done, so the program crashes. My suggestion: Kivan is definitely worth finding, and Kagain and Xan are at least hafway decent, and you seem to have forgotten about Branwen. If you managed to kill Branwen, too, better suck it up & get Faldorn. Hey, she's better than Jaheira. Those guys alone would be decent enough to beat the game, no matter what class YOU are.

P.S.: Of all the possible combinations of NPCs to survive your slaughter, how the hell did you wind up with Edwin & Minsc???

Dave, the other thing you might consider if all your NPC's are dying is to play a multiplayer game and generate your own characters. Be sure to save the characters (export them), then if the character dies (and you haven't already taken SixofSpades'advice and reloaded until you can beat the battle), then all you have to do is import the dead character, though they will have the stats and experience and equipment that they had when they were last exported. The characters you generate yourself will also have much better, more rounded stats then the NPC's. The disadvantage is that they will not have as much personality as the NPC's. Also, later if you take the characters to BGII, there will be alot of good interactions between the NPC's (more than in BGI, IMHO)and there are (BGII) quests that are only available if certain NPC's are in the party. The NPC's add a lot of flavor to the game. I have played BGI, BGII SOA and TOB through once and have restarted BGI with a new character and entire party of my own generated characters. You could also leave a slot empty for whichever NPC strikes your fancy, if you wanted. While you can't export NPC's, you can export any or all of the characters you have generated. You can even export them by name (instead of a generic bard, cleric etc.), if you go to the characters folder in side the Baldurs Gate folder and copy and rename one of the existing .chr files there. The renamed .chr file will show up as an option to save as when you export a character. You just need to keep the name 8 characters or less, not counting the .chr file extension.
