He casts timestop (then various symbol) and eventually my party cant hit him because of his protection EVEN FROM SPELL BUSTERS! WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!? Lichs are imune to all spells level (IIRC) 1-6 so that's why breach etc won't work. This means you'll need to use higher level spells to remove his spell protections, I find the level 7 spell ruby ray of reversal is excellent for using against lichs, if you don't have spells of this high level you won't be able to remove it's protections unless you have Keldorn who can use his inate dispel magic ability. If you don't have Keldorn your only option would be to summon the lich from the machine and run away if you can until it's protections wear off, or use the cheesy method of setting traps before you summon it from the machine.

Summon.. A lot! Angra Diagott isn't too hard to beat, but he's still a pretty tough bastard. Make sure you summon some critters to keep him busy. Furthermore; use Breach to clear his Stoneskin and other spell protections and continue to hack at him with your fighters.
EDIT: If Breach fails to day it's work (which I doubt; I guess he just recasts his protections) then you should try Khelben's Warding Whip, Ruby Ray of Reversal. These work fine as well.. Try to use Daystar's special ability Sunray, as it will deliver an enormous amount of damage to Undead. Of course, you need to have Daystar to use it ![]() [ 03-18-2003, 05:11 PM: Message edited by: Link ]

Liches are immune to spells from Levels 1-5, not 1-6. Pierce Magic will work, but Breach will not. But why even bother to Breach? All of the best combat protections (PfMW, Improved Mantle, etc) only last for 4 rounds, so all you need to do is have your Tank (who hopefully has the Saving Throws to resist Symbol: Stun) take Alchra for a walk, and then it's one whack with Azuredge or the MoD and that's the game. Or, if you've got Keldorn, Dispel + Azuredge means the Lich, ANY Lich, is dead before it can even finish casting Timestop. Or take Daystar--it's Level 7 and therefore can hit the Lich, and it's not a targeted spell and therefore can ignore the Lich's Spell Protections and protective Illusions. There is ALWAYS more than one way to skin the cat.
If Liches are supposed to be so intelligent, why does Alchra Diagott refer to herself in the third person? Do Not Use Summons--Alchra casts Imprisonment. (Then again, if you're going to do Vithal's quest, it won't matter in the end.)

Well, Alchra HAS been tucked away in this spehere for who knows how long...most of the other longtime residents seem to be nuts, so he might've gone a little off, too.

Summon + Imprisonment --> Summon Limit, you mean, Six? I figured that he would be doing Vithal's quest too, so that would solve that problem. But imprisonment isn't cast directly, so he could as well try it.

Hey, killed him eventually.
The idiot lich eventually killed Nalia but I got on top of him as I kept on whacking the wack. Must've run out of combat protection spells to back up his butt. Oh and did I mention I had 2 full charged rod of resurrection? ![]() Thanks. Now I guess I'll have a better idea how to deal with those ****** liches.

Once the first set of protections go away, he is easy pickings. Unless you are fantastically unlucky, your tank alone will hit often enough to keep him from getting another spell off. Like SoS says, saving against that first stun is all that is really important, so go through your stuff, and drop your saves as low as you can. IIRC, you just picked up an item that gives some fantastic bonuses to saves, at least if it works like it does in the PnP game, and if you have Weimer's Item Upgrades, you may have some stuff with bonuses to saves that can be worn with armor. And it might behoove you to sift through your low-level spells to see if there might be something that might give you bonuses to saving throws (Hint, hint.) I don't recall exactly what was cast, but it never hurts to check your stuff to see if there are any items that might reduce magical damage, since keeping your tank above 89 HP is a good thing. And I don't know about this specific encounter, but in other mage-type encounters, the ability to go invisible will cost him the spell he was casting (assuming he targeted you) *and* he will have to waste a round casting true sight. And a round or two of free pummeling is never a bad thing.
BTW, this applies to pretty much any encounter you are not positive you can handle without breaking a sweat, so you may already have your tank so equipped. If so, huzzah! |

Trivia of the day:
---- Liches ignore invisibility. Ergo, you can be as invisible as you want, and they will still be able to cast directly on you. |

Thanks, Dundee. I couldn't remember whether they targeted invis prior to Improved Undead or not. With Imp Undead, I think every undead and its mother can target Imp Invis characters with spells once the character takes some action that would allow him to be targeted with weapons.
