I just hope the aid starts rolling within the next few days as food has been in very short supply

They were looking to open a supply line. All they needed was to open up a route to get supplies in.

The real important thing now is to get aid into Basra asap and feed the population.
Word spreads fast and if other Iraqi cities see Basra is ok and being fed, I think resistence in other cities will ease off significantly.
