OK, so I met this dude who wanted help reclaiming his axe from some hag lady. It was late in the day, and I was lost and wandering and trying to get to Caldera. So I accepted the task to help him, and he followed me about a bit. I went into the pub in Caldera and got a room for the night. My crazy partner however, managed to wander down into the big room at the far end of the corridor. The door is shut. He is trying to walk through the door to get to me, and I am trying to open the door to let him out (but I can't cos he is sitting right against it). I have no way to free him.

if there is a room beside that one, you could try having him move against the wall, then opening the door. if not, you could always try a previous save (camping outside is not such a bad idea)

Try going out of the building entirely and then back in a few times. Your buddy might have calmed down by then and might just leave the door alone after a while. I've had this happen with other characters in other places too. Silly gits, they are.

That last one doesn't work I'm afraid Ali, I've been in and out of that building about 10 times. I had some other guy following me recently, and he managed to get caught the same way (different building. I am now very careful if escorting - avoid opening "Doors" - there are no problems with "Door to etc" though.

Nothing else has worked - a bit hesitant to go with the reset actors command - that just creates two copies of anyone that's moved or is dead (that's my understanding). When I try it, the door is still blocked by the wine sot, and presumably there is another wine sot back on the road. Also, that hag was supposed to meet us at the Caldera mages guild, but I've been stood up. I wonder if itis because I don't have him with me?

I can't help fixing your current problem, but I think I should remind you that you can tell the followers to stay in place. Talk to them about traveling together and tell them to wait. Better than letting them wander in places they get stuck.

I never got the witch to meet us at the mage's guild, so I killed her.

It's a cheat...kinda... but since stupid things like this seem to happen at the worst times. It's the easiest way to fix it. Go into your command line, using the tilde "~" and type TCL, this turns off the clipping (on PC version at least) and allows people/things to move through each other. You can use this to get the door open, then just type it again to turn it back off. It's saved me some really annoying reloads when I or someone else was stuck on a door or a wall, or a torch or something.
