I just upgraded my athlon 500 with sdram
to an athlon xp 1900+ with 512Mb of DDR
I was playing a video in the Kazaa preview window, and another in windows media player, and streaming a third off of the internet while running photoshop, chatting and downloading videos. all of this was running in the background, and i still got a respectable 13-20 fps in morrowind.
posting a screen shot cause i think its cool . i'm such a dork

I run a pIII900 with 256SDRAM and a GeForce3Ti200. I get 45-75 fps on ALL resolutions with max view distances and real-time shadows. My guess is, memory or CPU is just as important as vidcard. Im gonna buy a stick of 256 sdram megs, see if can get above the 60 fps tresshold. Nice stats though!!!

45-75 FPS with those stats and everything at max with SDRAM. What kind of motherboard do you have? How overclocked is your cpu and vid card?
I just upgraded but my old system was a PIV 1.7ghz with 640mb SDRAM and a Visiontek GeForce 3 ti200 also. With nothing running in the background and all my game stats on max as well I could only achieve about 35FPS.??? SDRAM just can`t keep up with a current systems front side bus speed. Especially with a game like Morrowind that is constantly rendering it`s environment. I would really like to know what you did with yours to achieve 75 FPS.

Thats indoor graphics. Outdoors is around 45-50. My FSB is @ 147MHz with causes my CPU to run @ 955,55MHz exactly. I got Alpha PEP fans hung in my case for cooling the CPU and the space around my memorybanks and vidcard. The memorybank itself is a 256MB SDRAM Kingston. I run an Asus P3V4X slot1 mobo with an Asus slot1-socket7 converter, no probs there. My Ti200 runs @ 215/485 and is an Asus V8200 deluxe with 64 Megs of DDR. All the latest drivers and a stripped & tuned WindowsXP Pro as OS. I get a 5213 on 3DMark2001 and 9344 on 3DMark2000.

Hey Slackerboy, can I ask you how much you paid to upgrade your system? Just curious. I am assuming you installed a new motherboard?

Man I have to hit my PC books more. I just upgraded my Motherboard to an Asus P4B266-C where I can now use PC2100/1600 DDR SDRAM. 512mb of it. I am still using my respectible 1.7ghz chip and my GeForce 3 card via an AGP 4x slot, high speed data transfers using the ATA 100 protocol. On 3D mark 2001 I consistantly achieve around 6600 pts. When I loaded up Morrowind with everything max I am still running at about 40fps outdoor and slower indoors/town. Nothing wrong with that but I still feel it should be better ? My hard drive is only 1.5yrs old. 40gb/7200 rpm/Western Digital and I run Win XP home/streamlined. I also purchased a custom tower that comes with 2 zippy cooling fans.
I guess I should be content, I just feel games like Morrowind should be able to run quicker on this system.
