Hi, I just arrived in Arnika and was wondering if I needed some things I found. Do I need the microwave chip, magnifying glass, and "brotherhood of ascension" note? I don't think the magnifying glass is a quest item. It says a gadgeteer can use it. Also, I'm confused on how spell acquisition for levels works. My mage is 6th level and still doesn't have fireball. I have a good fire and wizardry skill. What's the deal? My priest didn't get identify item until she was about 5th level. Identify item is a 2nd level spell. This makes no sense.

usually if you right click on stuff like the microwave chip it says "other", which tends to be a euphymism for "something the gadgeteer needs to use with a second item to get a neat, cool third item".

sometimes they are just for use later on, tho. if you don't know what to do, stuff them in a chest somewhere and wait to see if down the line someone comes up to you and begs you for a bottle of goo.

notes in this game are usually to get you something. since that is a note with religious connotations, maybe you need to show it to some high church official? ::hint hint:: just thrust it in his face and see if he responds.

this game requires you to do a lot of stuff like that to get further along in the plot and/or aquire experience.

good luck!

ADDITION: Fireball is a Level 7 spell, and thats NOT your mage's level. its your Spell Level. she won't get that for quite a while. your manual has a list of what class levels correspond to spell levels. but i think she will have to be Class Level 18 to get it.

Thanks for your help. Concerning putting items in chests, you mean they will stay there? What if I sell them to someone like Burz, will he always have it? Thanks.

Oh, I checked the rulebook and fireball is a 3rd level spell. Ususally a spellcaster get a spell level every 2 levels-i.e. 1st level gets 1st level spells, 3rd level gets 2nd level spells, etc. I couldn't find the spell distribution tables.

"oopsie! mah bad!", as my faerie mage says! sorry!
but to make it up, here's a very useful list for you, written by Alex Meduna, the lead designer.

it should clear up ANY confusion i may have caused.

ADDITION: about selling off stuff. it's chancey. sometimes i have sold regular things (non-magickal) and they are there when i get back, however i have had very bad results selling off a quest item. those tend to disappear.

to use a regular chest that you have looted, choose a central place that you go to a lot. i chose Antone's chest in his bedroom in the Armory in Arnika. his door closes, so it's a safe place from intruders, plus he makes a kick butt guard!

~after you have emptied his chest, close the lid.
~go into your inventory and pick up something you want to put in.
~click the arrow to exit your inventory (your item will hang on your cursor)
~click the chest.
~the item will go thru the lid into the chest.
~if it's only one item, it will come back out by clicking on the chest again.
~to add a second item, repeat the process.
~with more than one item in the chest, you will get the standard inventory window that displays each item for you to choose the one you want to remove.

it's going to be almost essential for you to maintain a chest somewhere. there's just way too much good stuff to carry it all around with you. esp if you have a bard, gadgeteer or alchemist!!

Instead of putting things in chests, I just leave them about on the ground. I have yet to see something disappear. Is there some sort of time limit that things stay on the ground for? I have left and returned to places days later and things are still where I left them.
