In the 4 hours the patch has been out, the server has crashed 2 times. UGH! And I think I know why.

Hacked Items. I saw a few people with 'bad stref' in their item prop's and it's not good. You know, people with a sword that does 2d12 damage in EVERY damage slot--cold, fire, slash, bash, ect.. and many items like this as well.

I think these items are sometime crashing the server, SO, I may have to do one of the following:

Turn ON 'item level restrictions' which doesn't REALLY matter now that we have level 40, but maybe...

OR

Turn OFF 'allow local characters'. MOST servers today do this anyway, and I've been seeing loads of cheaters in the mod lately, so I may just change it.. What do you think? This would make EVERY ITEM you have, hard fought for, and worth something.. ya know?

I really want feedback on this issue, because it's VERY important.

Hi Z, what's up? Been really busy with DM duties, and such, and haven't had a chance to get around much for general gossip, but I don't know if changing to a server vault will accomplish the crash prevention. We went to server vault about 9 months ago, and started having really bad lag, and I mean really bad, right after Hordes, it still crashes the server, and makes playing a nightmare, at best. We had to restrict stunning effect weapons, and I had to quit running my assassins there, because the death attacks would lag the server so bad that we thought it was going to crash. I don't think that that will 100% solve the problem, but would have no objections to your doing it, in fact, I'm starting to enjoy server vault games a lot more. It shows how well you can run a char in game, and not in the tool set. It will cut down on some of the uber weapons, armor, and such that you get now, though, which would be a good thing, until about lvl 8. You have my support which ever way you decide to go, and I hope it helps some with the crashes. Undermountain is still one of my fav places, and the stabler the game is, the better.

OK it is seeming to work now, for some reason it had to downgrade first, now it is upgrading to 1.62. *prays this is the answer to his problems* hope thisl finally let me into EFU, hope to catch you later in there.

OK I vote for the server vault option, I think its a really good idea, + then I might actually get in (tried patch 1.62, no difference!)

How about stripping bad weapons via scripting on entering of the module? There are a lot of tests you can do on it, like max different types, max different subtypes, max number of updates altogether. I haven't played your mod a lot since it's a bit too much for my under requirements computers, so I don't know if many would object against this.

I would vote for SERVER vault but consider these issues:

(1) it is almost impossible to survive in EfU with a starting level (1st level) character. If we can start with legally enforced characters at levels above 1st level then by all means switch to server vault.

(2) you COULD enforce item level restrictions instead and make the item level cap something BELOW level 40.

(3) An alternative is to simply BAN players who come in with UBER items of the type you mentioned. You can block them easily enough. Coupling that with a hard cap on item levels might solve the problem.

(4) I like the local vault feature because I can pick and choose my character everytime I come in to EfU. That gives me more flexibility and allows me to try different character builds out.

Whichever way you go is fine with me, Z.

I was going to suggest this as well. It takes some scripting overhead but it is not as restrictive as a server vault or ILR.

I like the stripping bad weapons idea. Much less drastic than banning players.

Can anyone point me to a script like this? I looked at IGN, and didn't find any like this--I may be looking in the wrong areas or wrong keywords.. ? Help! Links!

Thanks for the replies guys, it means a lot! Anyone else, please drop in your ideas too. IF I could get some scripts to clean logins, I'll do it. I also like Local vault because I can switch characters..

BTW, every character I have is 'grow' in Undermountain totally. Every item on my characters is from the Mod. (For playtesting reasons)

If I did have a server vault, I would somehow allow auto-leveling to level 10. But lets see if we can find some scripts!!
