I was going though my list of stats just now, reviewing the Wisdom scores on the various Clerics and Druids, when Edwin jumped out at me. Is that obscene Wisdom score simply there for Lore purposes, or.......can he Dual? (insert creepy, ominous theme music here)

P.S. Yeah, I could find out for myself, but I'm not gonna make a new game and go all the way to Nashkel to find out he can't Dual--which he almost certainly can't, as I've never heard of it being mentioned before. It probably IS there for Lore, as he can't cast Identify, so that would pretty much turn him into the perfect true-class Mage......IF you had some spare Gauntlets of Dexterity lying around.

i have never ever heard of edwin having a 19 wisdom in BG I or II...at least not without a little shadowkeeper action. you're saying your edwin has a 19 wisdom just naturally? did you use any tomes of wisdom maybe?

by the way, intelligence determines a boost in Lore value, not wisdom...Lore is basically a knowledge of arcane things and artifacts and knowing of their nature (i.e. identifying them off the bat)...this is a trait linked to intelligence, not wisdom.

No, I've actually never had Edwin in my party for more than a few minutes, and to use a Tome of Wisdom on a Mage would be idiotic. I simply got/made a list of all the NPCs and their stats & weapon proficiencies, and noticed that Edwin has 19 WIS. It might be a mistake--I'd have to go get Edwin myself to make sure.
Lore is based in Intelligence AND Wisdom, as well as the level of the character. A Mage with 18 INT and 19 WIS would have some _great_ Lore, comparable to a Bard (well, a Bard with low Wisdom).

it is pretty screwy, don't try to make sense of it...if you do though, maybe you can let me know why Quayle has a wisdom of only 13...

Because he's an annoying loser who's almost as deluded as Tiax?

Still, even Quayle and Tiax rock compared to Osprey, one of the characters you meet in the Illusions Dungeon. She's a Cleric/Mage. Got that? A Cleric/Mage. Her stats are:
STR 16
DEX 9
CON 13
INT 15
WIS 10
CHA 6
She's got the weakest Wisdom of the entire Cleric/Druid set, and the worst Dexterity in the whole game. Want to play a challenging game? Beat the game solo, but take Osprey along, sucking up half your Exp.

I started another game, and went & got Edwin. Turns out he's got only NINE wisdom, not nineteen (in my version, anyway). Looks like Gamespot made a typo when they were copying the stats to their webpage or something. But I can't believe that nobody corrected me....It seems that, despite all the folks who say what a great Mage Edwin is, hardly anyone uses him.

In BG1 there are several other mages which are a nice substitute for Edwin, and besides, taking him into your party should exclude Minsc and Dynaheir (not counting errors in the game when you pick up Minsc after you've killed Dynaheir), and those characters are pretty popular in BG1 for some reason. In BG2 it's different, Edwin is the only full mage in the game with a few very interesting features, like the bonus amount of spells to learn. While Edwin is very popular character in BG2, in BG1 he wasn't.

edwin has 10's in every stat, except 16 dex, and 18 int.
