Am I the only one having problems killing off these beasties? No matter what I hack them with, whatever spells I use, invoke fiends, these darn things are impossible to kill because they regenerate so quickly. I wound up having to cheat and import lots of invisibility scrolls to sneak my party past them.

If anyone has made it past them legitimately I'd like to know how you did it.

Those beasties have the power to regenerate ALL their hitpoint back in one round ... they begin each round with FULL hp ...
Not sure how many HP they have, but i guess you have to do about 80 - 100 damage per round .. more because they regenerate in between ....

Haste / improved haste are the best methods, and all on one ....
Lower MR, and some spell-sequencers do nicely too

EDIT: Dont worry, everyone single player in the world, has had problems with these creatures at some point in time ...

Can't remember if Death Spell or Fog of Death had any effect or not...

One way I was able to get around them when I was playing mage-heavy was to keep them occupied with a tank while I "Greater Malisoned" them, then cast (of all things!) Chromatic Orb. Instant petrified wolfwere! Makes great yard statues.

Hi - even if I gave Minsc all those goodies there are 3 of them! While he's hacking away at 1 the other 2 gang up on him and my party.

What stinks is that I can't lure them out one at a time and slam the door on the rest. Most spells don't work on them and they demolish cacofiends, nishru, skeltons, nymphs, and pretty much anything that I can summon.

Okay - will try that for the heck of it the next time I head out that way.

Had tried that....problem was that some of the party straggled too far behind and became visible even though I chose a tight formation.

Hello,
well, they are tough, but your characters can do a lot in a round. Get three tanks to focus on the wolves, ONE at a time. I had them pair-up with the beasties, and that took a long time to win! Look on the bright side, they don't cast spells (or missles weapons). However, you do! Summon a few friends, invisible your mages, haste and s-skin the fighters. Greater mailson, sphere of chaos, bless, chant, etc.

What you really want to do is to set things up in the classic configuration!! Spellcasters to the rear please, fighters prevent the foes from reaching them. Now, these spellcasters can heal your fighters (key!), hit the enemy with area effects (i.e., slow) and specific attacks (i.e., magic missle), and (as they should) fire missle weapons when they really have nothing else to do. Don't worry if you can't summon a Pit Fiend or a Palanetar, or use a 30th level fighter: just arrainge a set-up where the battle is conducted on a rather narrow, tight front try (using a hasted character) luring them into a good position. It was toughest for me when I faced them in the wide open area of the second to last western room, but much better in the hallway. At least you know what you're up against!

p.s. are shapechangers evil (think sunray, Bigby's, Equalizer, etc.)?????
