The story:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...International/

It didn't require guns, F-16's or cruise missiles to get the job done, just some old fashioned diplomacy.

This is a very interesting story and i don't have any links unfortunatly but i watched a feature on it several months ago on television.

Apparently this Canadian guy was living there and was hanging with a crowd of other expatriates, not only Canadian, but English Aussie, American, Irish, a whole group of foreigners living in Saudi Arabia. Anyway this Candadian and two Brits i think, were the lynchpins of a booze trading operation.. There were some bombings and these guys were arrested and used as scapegoats. Under torture one of them confessed to the crime and i don't even know the whole story but the Canadian was in prison for almost three years.

His father pleaded with the Canadian government, the Saudi government to release him, to put the pressure on.. but nothing was happening and it reeked of a total scam, it seemed very surreal.. The bombings that happened had nothing to do with him or any of the others implicated. They had a smuggling operation for liquor going, criminal as that is in SA.. it does not deserve the punishment this man went through.
