Bush took responsibilty for the infamous 16 words.

Story

Quote:

For the first time, President Bush has accepted personal responsibility for a now discredited portion of his January state of the union address, dealing with claims that Saddam Hussein was seeking nuclear material from Africa.

At a news conference Wednesday at the White House, the president also defended his National Security Adviser, Condoleezza Rice, who has been criticized for her role in the controversy. He said the United States is lucky to have such an "honest, fabulous" person working in its government.

CIA Director George Tenet took responsibility for the nuclear materials claim, as did deputy national security adviser Stephen Hadley. In recent weeks, the administration has distanced itself from the claims, saying they were based partly on forged documents.

Mr. Bush again rejected criticism of his administration's use of intelligence to justify the war in Iraq, saying he would never assume that dangerous enemies will exercise restraint and show good will.

Asked if U.S. forces are close to finding the ousted Iraqi leader, the president said Saddam's two sons had not escaped justice, and neither would other members of what he termed "that despicable regime."

The president said in the months ahead he will focus on the economy and security for the American people. He rejected assertions that his tax cuts are partly to blame for the country's increasing deficits.

It was Mr. Bush's first extensive news conference since March 6 - 13 days before the beginning of the Iraq war. The president is leaving Saturday for a month-long stay at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

First of all the "Discredited" Statment is false! In fact it could be called a LIE.

1)President Bush said "Africa" not Niger.
2) The Famous false papers dealt with SoDanm Insane trying to get Uranium from Niger, one country on the continent of Africa. Africa has many Counties on it. Many of those counties have uranium. Could there have been another country or two President Bush was speaking about?
3) President Bush said "The British Government has learned" (see text of the State of the Union) the British government stands by it's claim. Siting that it had OTHER sources then the false papers, papers that the British Government KNEW were false. Other sources means other sorces then the false papers, sources that they told the CIA they could not and would not reveal. So wouldn't the false papers have to be dissmissed, because they were not even used in the consideration of the Intel analysis by the British Government?

The only mistake the Bush Whitehouse has made is allowing the piss'n moun'n to go on, and not crush it for the blatant falsehood, and political posturing that it is. But as I have said before this new tone crap makes me believe that President Bush doesn't pocess the testostorone producing glands that many in the conserveative camp believed.

So lets see where that leave us shall we? False papers that were not even used in the analysis are held up as something, they were not. Words that were used are ignored, and infact are subsitutted with words that were NEVER used, and that is considered the truth. Is that the point the writer of the artical wishes to make that he/they have exposed a falsehood by using falsehoods?
