Bug (?) with Kruin the Githyanki

I have just returned to Athkatla from the Underdark. As soon as I enter a city district a Githyanki named Kruin appears and demands my part of the Silver Sword.
In the resulting fight I don´t use any magic because I do not have a license but the Githyanki freely use their magic. When the Cowled Wizards appear after some seconds my game freezes reproducibly so I have to reboot my machine via a hard reset.
Has anybody else experienced this behaviour - until now my BG II installation has been really stable ??? Is there any known solution - otherwise I´m not able to do this fight ???

Did your game freeze during a second attempt as well or only that once?

Did your game freeze during a second attempt as well or only that once?[/QUOTE]I tried this three times and each time my game froze. I recognized no specific action I took the moment the game crashed - it just happened some seconds after the Cowled Wizards appeared.

sometimes i get my game crashing loads of times over some particular fight.
I often find that it seems to have something with the location of the fight. Maybe try running away a bit, luring them after you so that the cowled wizards are out of your sight. Then fight the githyanki, wait a few days (untill the wizards go away) then come back.

If you go to the Forest of Tethyr before going to Athkatla, then Kruin will show up in the southeast corner of the map. The Coweled Wizards shouldn't show up there.

Does your computer lock up only during the Githyanki fight, or any time the Cowled Wizards show up? And as far as annoying the Cowls goes, casting spells from scrolls is illegal, but they don't mind your using Wands.

No - my machine just locks up during the Githyanki fight and not everytime the Cowled Wizards appear. Not using magic in this fight is no great problem for me - I think I will be able to defeat them using just potions etc.
