I know how enchanting works, but there is one question that puzzles me before I start making stuff. Do you need a 'fortify x' spell for every attribute or will one suffice from which you can choose to create spells and effects from every attribute? Same goes for skills, if there is a spell for such things.

Just buy one fortify attribute spell and you can create all the fortify attribute spell. There's no fortify skills spell in patched version of morrowind.

... starting from some patch level. Until then, you were able to get Fortify Short Blade spell as a quest reward from Morag Tong (and, therefore, you were able to create any fortify skill spell, like in the case of fortify attributes). Right, this reward has already been removed from the game. Patch level 1.07.etc has the reward already removed.

Once you managed to trap grand sould gems with "Golden Saint" or "Ascended Sleeper"(?) you can create enchantment with constant effect, including fortify attributes. A nifty trick to "sqeeze" in more level of constant effect is to provide a range, for exmaple 5 - 10 instead of say 6 - 6. This will have your enchantment more "efficient".

For example, if you enchant a constant effect of fortifyy strength 5 -10. Each time you equip the item, you will gain constant strength bonus of 5 to 10, depending on the "roll". If you are not happy with the fortification, simply unequip and equip again and hopefully the new roll will give you higher bonus level.

But why go through all the hassle of doing this than to fortify a constant 10-10? This is because a enchantment of 5 -10 uses less "space" than a 10-10 effect. Thus you will be able to "sqeeze" in more enchantment level in the said item.

Actually Paladin2000, for a constant effect of fortify strength 5 - 10. You'll gain constant strength bonus of 5 to 9 each time you equip the item. It won't give you the bonus of 10.

Yeah, I noticed that too, Kakero. I thought my "luck" attribute is not high enough to get the "highest" roll. I was equiping and unequiping my 5-11 fortify Strength Ebony Cuirass until I finally settled for a "10". Damn!

The fortify skill spell is back with the release of Tribunal-you can buy the spell for a spell vendor in the plaza.

If you want really fun CE effects, set it to something like 1-14. That'll get you a 10 easily
