i was using a shortsword for a long time and its done very well , got me up to 100 and in the 20s level wise so i switched to a longsword when i picked up a glass one which looked alot more powerful but even though its at 40 (and my shortsword at 40 was hitting almost everything) im having problems even scoring hits on rats! now its fully charged up, isnt damaged and is meant to do alot of damage but it seems to do both less damage and have trouble hitting compared to what my shortsword was like around the same level, add to that the fact that my strength is 50 points higher than it was at that level what is going on? surely i should be at least hitting rats far more like i used to with the shortsword, and when i do hit them shouldnt it just be one hit and not lots. The longsword damage is 4 times what my shortsword can do when i identify it ignoring the magical effects.

anyone got any ideas why it doesnt hit hard?

strength 100
long sword 40
agility 80s
Undamaged weapon
Glass Longsword

thats basically what im hitting with, you'd have thought that could take a rat out!

Did you turn on "Use Best Attack" in options? (Stab vs slice)

Are any of you Stats in red? (Including ones not associated with the skill. Bug?.?) Reason: My Willpower was damaged by a Dagoth and all of a sudden I could not hit anything without 2 to 3 tries with my crossbow even though I still had 100 Marksman and 120 Agility. Fixed Willpower and started hitting again...

You have to look at both the minimum and maximum damage ratings. The short swords and daggers tend to have higher mimimum damage ratings than other weapons. This means if you are just attacking as fast as possible then the short swords will do more damage. To get the benefit of the higher damage on any weapon you have to "power up" your attack. You do this by holding down the attack button (left mouse button for PC) for a little while before releasing. When you release the button, the attack goes off and you have the potential for the higher damage.

As for missing more often, you could just be suffering from bad luck on the random rolls to hit by the computer.

aha yes lots of stats in red for no good reason, tried all the curing i can think of but it doesnt remove it, despite that though the stats are still high even though they are red?

and no its not max and min damage, they are fine. and im talking about 1 hit with a shortsword always kills rats, 1 hit with a much more powerful weapon (better min and max) longsword takes sometimes 3 or 4! i use both weapons on and off.

how do i get rid of all the red stats i have then? cos shrines find nothing to cure, plus im immune to disease etc anyway. Thats definately what i need to do....

Red stats mean the stat has been lowered by some sort of attack. Use a "Restore [stat]" spell or potion to bring it back to your normal level.

PS: Before you do the stat repair spell/altar/potion, remove any
stat boosting items such the "Gloves of Ragnor(SP?)" or "Helm of Clacivius Devile(SP?)"
or it will not work.
