Need help A.S.A.P

I am in the lair of the unseeing eye and I t to the alter area but i cant kill the demon + the other part of the rod is not on the small alter area. Is that the right are? plz help !!!!!!!!!!!

Don't attack it, cast a healing spell on it to destroy it. The avatar will then appear and give you half of the rod.
