Taffer comes from the Thief series of games: there's been a lot of discussion on the Thief forums of where the developers got it from and no definitive answer. As the picture is from the game as well I'm certain that's where it originated in this specific case.

I have played Thief for years and it is one of the funniest thing you can say!
It is if you call pouple, like ashole or bastard but i think it is a little nicer to say you damn taffer he he!
