Let's put this advice in one single thread, OK?
I just got Wiz 8 and are still experimenting. Right now I'm experimenting with a non magic party, but I feel there's something missing: 1 lizzard fighter 1 dracon fighter 1 elf ranger 1 human valkyrie 1 human ninja 1 felpurr samurai. Except for the 2 fighters, all the rest are the premade characters, but I'd like a party all of my own. This is my first wizardry and I have the feeling that I'm going to love this game Ðrâktøn

hi! i think making your own characters is important in an rpg.its a real joy for me when i first sit down with my new game. you get to pick out everything you want in a class, and give everyone personalities. i love sitting there for a couple of hours, with the manual open, reading about all the races, going over the class statistics and getting all the little bonuses from doing it that way. it makes the game mean a lot more to me, because the gang becomes a bunch of friends ::blushes:: i know them, inside and out. all their good and bad points. it's easy to learn just how far you can push them too. if you feel like you're missing something, then you need no better reason. go on and do it. you can still keep the other party you made, because until you physically delete them, they will stay in your group, waiting for you to return. ::smiles:: if you do, you'll understand why the rest of us brag about our parties! Hello,
I agree with vesselle on this there's nothing like creating your own party and watching them grow.Hell i usually delete any premade characters that come with a game.As for magic using pcs i always have a mage lurking nearby and some means for healing...it looks like you have a few elites in your party so once you hit 5th level they will start getting magic spells to.Good luck, qwert

Thanks for your replies.
What an incredible game. I love it. This weekend I went through the upper and lower monasteries and reached Arnika. Got Myles and Vic. I then realized I wasn't leveling my characters properly, because I was putting points in fighting skills for my mages, instead that in their spell-casting abilities. (Doh!) So I decided to gather the experience up to that point, and start anew. I think this will be my final party. At least I'm very satisfied with it, so far. Oh, and you all are right: nothing like having a party all of your own. So here it its: Dracon Fighter Rawulf Priest Mook Bard Elf Bishop Mook Ranger Elf Mage. I had a gadgeteer in my previous party but got rid of him in exchange for the Ranger. I just finished first part of monastery with this party. Not a single death and barely a couple of healing casts from my Priest. So far so good. I love this game. The amount of detail in its design is amazing and the gameplay and immersivenness is great. This Sunday I woke up at 4 AM for a pee. I said "What the keck" and turned my computer on. Next time I knew it was already 8 AM. It's been a long time since a game did this to me! Go on rub it in. I still got to wait a couple of weeks till I can get my hands on a copy. I hope that I will also be loosing a lot of sleep playing. Like you Drakton it has been a looonnnggg time since a game has managed to do that to me. Countdown continues Houston

Your latest party sounds magic heavy. You've got a mage, a priest and a bishop. You probably don't need all three. You're also light on front line fighters. The fighter is awesome, but you need at least one more front line guy. I don't think of a ranger as a front line fighter, since I have mine use his bow all the time. Your priest can fight, but you don't want to spend his level up points on combat, so he'll be only fairly effective in melee. I'm currently playing with a samurai, but am disappointed in her damage output. I'd recommend a monk, a valkyrie or a lord to replace one of your three spell casters.
I'd also take a rogue over a bard. Rogues are decent front line fighers. With stealth, they have a high AC, comparable with fighers. I pump all my level up points into stealth, locks & traps and pickpocket. I wasn't all that satisfied with my bard. He was male, so I couldn't use stamina amulets, and he only had enough stamina for about two instrument plays per battle. If you do go with a bard, make it a female. |

Thanks! The reason I didn't start with a rogue or valkirye is that you get those as NPCs very early in the game.I'm trying to build my mage to be as offensive a caster as possible. Still, I may change again. I'm too early in the game, and re-starting and experimenting is part of the fun!

starting over with new parties is derigeur with rpgs, right? LOL. i think everyone tries at least 3 or 4 times till they find that one that just clicks! ::smiles:: i don't know who's gonna be asking to join my party. right now i have myles the rogue and vitalia the valkyrie. i'm sure there will be others, too. but to me they are Kool-Whip! heh. yummy to have around, but super-short shelf life! i like to know that my party can function well without anyone else's help. esp if they act like recruits in other games i've played.... take off on their own agenda after a bit! they usually take the good stuff with them when they go, too. lol. i'm expecting myles to clean me out when/if he takes off. V***V my party is very similar to catzenpewter's: hobbit bard felpurr monk human valkyrie dwarven priestess mook ranger faerie mage
