I read my first R.A. Salvatore book, Servant of the Shard. I really enjoyed it, actually couldn't put it down. Plan to read more of his books. I am going to read Icewind Trilogy. Also finished a very good book called, "The Unexpected Dragon" by Mary Brown. What an excellent story.

Hi Lady,

If you liked Servant of the Shard, which I believe is a story revolving around Jarlaxle (sp.?), then you should definitely read the Icewind Dale Trilogy (as you already mentioned).

I would also recommend that you read the Dark Elf chronicles. Basically a series of novels about Dr'izzt Duorden and his adventures both above and below ground. Jarlaxle makes a few appearances within these stories...

Cheers!

Or, you could read Daughter of the Drow by Elaine Cunningham which tales about a young female drow dealing witht the harshness and evil of drow life.

That sounds like a good one. I will try and get a copy after I get through Icewind Dale Trilogy.

I love the way that Salvatore and Cunningham both managed to get it right with portraying drow elves. Salvatore portrays them as the epitome of evil, while Cunningham still manages to wring out some elvish magic from them, portraying them so well as "fallen elves".

With Elaine's first drow book I liked the inside story on Gromph Baenre. He is another drow that hates Lolth and his life but does what has to be done. I think there is a lot more to that character than any author lets on...
