well, long long agooo there were some drizzzit posts, so i want to see what you all think of killing drizzt now: heres what i think

Drizzit is a hero of the lands or whatever, so i think it would be wrong to kill him if your a good party, because it wouldnt be role playing,. i did kill him in my last game, because hes got some boss stuffs and it was my first time that i actually knew i was going to beat the game, so i did kill him. Took lots of arrows and lots of monster summonings, but i did.

Now the sometimes controversial topic of killing him in your are evil.
I was wondering if you have an evil party, do you sometimes kill random people onthe streets, or anyone that just makes you a little mad??
if so, then it would seem fine to kill drizzit, because that would make you all the more infamous.

This time im trying to be a little more role-playing this time through, so i dont think i will kill him, even though i kinda sorta really want to

I always kill Drizzt. Always. Even when I'm going solo. However, if I'm going solo, first I go and do what I can in BG, complete the quest that Duke Eltan wants me to do, and then I head over to Drizzt now that I'm stronger.

An evil person would be justified in killing Drizzt because of playground mentality.
"He has better toys than me! Mine! MINE!"
It's not unheard of for an evil person to kill to get something they want.

False. RPing is not about choosing "good" or "evil" actions; it's about motive. What motivates your character? Why does he did he make this decision or that one? "Because he's good" is not an answer. There must be a reason why he is "good."

That said, a RP'd "good" party could end up battling Drizzt in various circumstances.

1 -- The party, for whatever reason, concludes Drizzt's yet another assassin sent after the PC. (Motive: Fear, paranoia.)
2 -- A party member harbors a violent Drow prejudice and attacks them on sight. (Character flaws are not monopolized by bad guys! e.g. Khalid's cowardice)
3 -- The party thief stupidly tried pickpocketing Drizzt. (Motive: Protection; your thief forces your hand.)
4 -- The PC read Salvatore's books and hopes killing Drizzt will make him stop writing. (Motive: Literary purification.)
5 -- Still new to the Art, your party's mage tries helping by using a Fireball, frying Drizzt in the process. Hostilities follow. (Motive: No hostile intent, a simple "Whoops!")

Afterwards, your party is more than allowed to question whether their actions were righteous and just. If they deem the action was a mistake, they may take greater care in future dealings with wilderness people.

If the PC is a genocidal maniac or psychotic, he might do that. If he's some sort of brawling hothead, why not? But by and large, no. I rather imagine even Neb does his killing in private.

Again, this gets back to motive. How does motive work? Let's take your justification: anger. Just because you're evil doesn't mean you kill someone when you're angry. Look at Edwin: when he's angry, he mutters to himself about simians. The only person he really seems intent on killing is Dynaheir, but his reason for that he doesn't share with you. Eddie's primary drive, as best I can tell, is power. Would he kill to gain more power? Probably. But anger? A triviality.

Characters can be motivated by many things, and sometimes desires may conflict. That's all part of RPing. Your good character is not expected to be a saint, and your evil character is not expected to think and act the same way as "Armored Figure" (endboss). Play the character, not the alignment.

The desire for fame can be a motive, but for consistency, the character should exhibit this in other ways, too. Though it's also possible that after a run-in with Drizzt the PC decides fame isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Except for the fact that the fireball wouldn't hurt Drizzt (he's got very good magic resistance, either 99 or 103, or something like that).
