Arrows/missile projectiles actually go in a straight path, instead of following the enemy? I mean, no one can shoot an arrow so that it goes straight forward, then curves right back *just* in time to catch the enemy. Also, could you introduce 'friendly fire'? As in, if you shoot an arrow close to someone (your frontline fighters), you're probably going to hit him, not the guy behind him. It stands to reason, IMO. It would add some additional tatcial improvements to the game, so that you might have to manually attack/spray a corridor to hit that Improved Hasted enemy, or move your fighters to the side so that your Arrows don't hit him.

According to 3rd edition rules, archers have a 50/50 chance of missing a target in melee and hitting the opponent(s) or just missing completely. Not sure how this can be implemented, though.
I think you're asking something that's just beyond the game engine's limits, Assassin. It's something that a human GM would take into consideration, but I don't think the game can handle something that complex. But who knows? Wonders never cease.

Friendly fire would certainly be realistic, but i figure it would not be such an nice feature in the end.
Archers & missile weapons would become far less useful, as a lot of the fighting in the game is dont in tight tunnels where you cant even move your archers to a better firing spot. :/ |

No, this is hardcoded and you would need the source to change it. And IIRC the source is in the hands of interplay and theres not a chance in hell of us seeing it.
Even if we did have the source, it would be very difficult to implement this properly. The game is balanced so that characters of a certain THACO can hit creatures of certain AC x% of the time. You can calculate the correct trajectory and fire an arrow off on that (or not, depending on whether this arrow is supposed to hit) but if the creature changes movement it would still miss. And an arrow supposed to miss might hit. But the two factors would not cancel out. And since BG is designed for party play, friendly fire would force you to pay as much attention to your archers as your mages. And the tight quarters often encountered would knock your archers completely out of the equation, since its often impossible to get LOS from the back rank and anything on the front ends up in melee. In short, this is one of those great ideas that just dosent work very well within constraints of the infinity engine.

=/ So, I's impossible? Gah... Would've been so nice. As to the tight quarters thing; that's the type of thing that I'm talking about. You have to choose between Arrows or melee. You can't have both at the same time. That means that now missile weapons won't be quite so powerful, and that melee will regain some its former glory.
ADD] Well, I suppose that if the creature moves out of the way, the engine could calculate it as a Critical Miss, thus ensuring that the creature wouldn't get hit. Maybe if you fooled about with the X and Y co-orindates a bit... [ 10-04-2003, 12:43 PM: Message edited by: Assassin ]
