i installed the improved thiefs guild, but didnt notice it came with improved Maevar. ive gone through him before with a purely powergaming party, but cant beat him now with a normal party. i tried him out anyways(though didnt think i would be able to beat him. one of the harder fights in the tactics mod, IMO), but now i cant seem to be able to uninstall him. i uninstall the component, but he still the improved version! any suggestions?

Ctrl+Y the insolent bastard. You don't want him in your game, but he stays there. So kick him out.

Make the game load the normal version: empty your Cache.

tried the cache thing already. for some reason, it didnt work. it should, though. hmmm...odd

I take it that his entire party and pet are there.

Perhaps the uninstaller didn't delete the files it should, or they got copied or who-knows-what. Delete them manually:
Open your override folder and delete (or just move somewhere, better safe than sorry) these files:
-Maevar.cre
-MVGuard1.cre
-MVPries.cre
-TSMaePet.cre
-TSMV00.bcs
-TSMV01.bcs
-TSMVBsc.bcs
-TSMVMage.bcs
-TSMPRST.bcs
If any of the files is not there, ignore it.

Beats me. Imp. Kitthix wouldnt last a second against these lunatics unless id get them held in webbings, which would require greater malison, which ever so conviniently i do not have.

ok Vedran, i deleted the files you mentioned above. improved maevar and his buddies were still there, but they didnt do anything! just stood around waiting for me to butcher them. better than nothing, i guess, since the original maevar is about as hard as a pack of gibberlings.(always complaining, arent i? [img]smile.gif[/img] )

Strangely enough I thought this was the easiest fight in the tactics module.

I don’t know what you consider a normal party but my most recent assault on improved Mae’var included Keldorn, Nalia, Yoshimo, Anomen and PC Stalker. All are around level ten except Yoshimo who was slightly higher.

Before you descend the stairs to Mae’Var buff as best you can, stoneskin, iroskins, mirror image, whatever you have.
Make sure the weaker party members are at the back of your formation
Load up on enhanced arrows, bolts and bullets, this is no time for ordinary arrows.

In this fight a fully charged wand of monster summoning is your best friend.
Once your downstairs don’t move from where you enter.

Nalia’s only real job here is to keep using the wand of monster summoning. Nave your summoned beasties move to the narrow opening where the assassins, clerics and eventually Mae’var and his pet imp will emerge.
Assassins can’t back stab what they can’t get to so as the monsters die Nalia needs to summon up more to fill the gap. While she is doing that the rest of your party is hammering away with missile weapons or magic. Keep you detect invisible spells up and running to counter the assassins stealth.

As a note no NOT use area effect spells here. There is a good possibility that they will take out the old prisoner and your reputation will suffer.

Eventually one or two of the bad guys will get through. Just assign one of your party to mêlée them and keep up the missile barrage on the rest.

Never give up, never surrender.

i dont quite remember the levels anymore, but i went to do Renals quest right after getting out of Irenicus's dungeon(well, i beat the circus first). in my party i had Minsc, Kelsey, Edwin, Jaheira, Anomen and PC Bounty Hunter. Didnt have the patiance to really start hammering them or try different tactics. this game is supposed to be the easy game in between my Insane difficulty and Tactics mod games.

BTW: Why doesnt Edwins quest trigger when i get to the graveyard? im not keeping Edwin(ill probaply swap him for Keldorn or Mazzy soon), but it just struck me odd. come to think of it, when i was testing valen with an evil party, the quest didnt trigger either. Im pretty sure some mod is causing this, but i dont know which.
