I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but alas. When I started a Swashie and used CLUA to level him up and analyse his progress, I was stunned when I saw the Whirlwind Icon among the HLA's when he got to lvl 24, I could even re-select it at every new level up.
Now, maybe this is a bug, or a hidden bonus from one of the mods I have installed, I assume it is not supposed to be there since it isn't mentioned on any site or in any FAQ or manual. But I think it does make sense after all. A Swashbuckler is really a fighter at heart and he can't really fight any other way than face-to-face, which of course he would not be able to do very well at all with the standard Thief APR. I guess he simply needs the Whirlwind attack to be able to survive in the latter stages. Still seems unbelievably powerful, even though I get a pretty hefty combat penalty with it, it's 10 APR and can be combined with Time Stop Trap. And add to that his awesome AC, THAC0 and Damage bonuses. What could a standard fighter possibly have to challenge this guy? Maybe slightly more life but the Swashie makes up for it by having way superior AC and Magic Resistance. [ 01-01-2003, 09:25 PM: Message edited by: Rataxes ]

Yep, Swashies get Whirlwind attack - because they can't get Assassinate.
It's not due to a mod - it was in the original game, too. They won't get Greater Whirlwind, but the regular Whirlwind still makes them melee monsters. |

Oh, true. The manual does mention it Though not the most obvious place I must say...

WW is a High Level ability that is ToB-only. Without ToB installed, you won't see it.
