OK, finally ready to play Spellforce which has been sitting on my shelf for a few months now, I got the platinum edition for under $10 which includes the expansions and I have heard good things about it. When I bought it though I did not notice that it required a DVD-ROM. So I got it home put it in my CD-ROM and nothing. I was like what and checked the system specs more fully and was like crap, "DVD-ROM???" since when have they started releasing games on DVD-ROM. So for an early fathers day gift I got a DVD-ROM to replace my CD-ROM which I have another that can write so I did not really need two.

I was in the game last night for a little bit a was debating what Avatar to create. Both mind and elementals to start with look pretty cool but I believe I could stat with more of a warrior and branch out to a school of magic. Recommendations on a starting character please??? Seems to be lots of possibilities.

I have heard about the really crappy voice acting which I have the option to turn off but I am thinking of keeping it on for a few laughs. Is it really as painful as some make out??? or can I turn it into something to laugh at???

well, i didn`t laugh, i just ignored it and concentrated on what a great game this really is.
i favor the magic arts, but thats the most diffecult way to play, so i runned through it with a warrior/magician, almost equally Lvl in both. so you should do as you thought.
warrior-> advancing to the magic school/arts.
one thing that was annoying in this game is all the bugs....

and you must try spellforce2! great game!

I started with a Black Arts Necromancer. I summoned 3 skeletons to help me do battle I have had no problems with her thus far as having a small army right of the bat is useful. I did start with mind magic but several goblins killed me easily so I started over. When I get a chance I will specilize her more with small weapons. As far as bugs I have not encountered any yet but I am only on the first map about to attack the goblin camp. I do have the platinum edition so the games included are fully patched and I only found one patch for platinum that solved a problem with starting the game. Since mine starts OK I did not bother with it. Maybe after I dig into this one quite a bit more than I will check out 2 which will be some time with the fun I am having.

Hello, is Spellforce a single player rpg? I had thought it was a MMO, but if not it sounds good... could you please tell me what sort of a game it is- turn-based/real time, quest based or linear or what? Thanks. That is a very cute baby by the way.

It's an RTS/RPG. Mainly RTS though, as the RPG part is fairly limited.

Yes, the baby is very cute, yesterday he whacked me with his little people bulldozer as a fathers day present. It was an accident of course and than after he attacked with a wet kiss to my cheek, it was more like he tried to chomp me but it was quit funny as he pounced squawking as he sounds more like a little pterodactylus and giggling. Highlight of my day yesterday was playing with my son (10.5 mths).

Back to Spellforce, it is a Dreamer128 said, I will say so far it seems to be quest driven, with some minor quests as well. I am only at the second map but one thing I found interesting is that after completing a map you can still travel back to the first one portals to complete minor quests or make purchases from merchants. The first map was mainly RTS but the second map so far as been mainly RPG as I had no other groups to control except my avatar and a hero.

Finally got my first Titan, well two Titans, Elf and human, in the Shiel. Very impressive and overpowered, they can take out small armies by themselves. This as been my best round so far in terms of RTS aspect I had the elves and humans working well together, used the Paladins for melee, and those elite elven ice archers (name???) for ranged, also had support healers from both. Fun Stuff!!!
