There I am training my Solo character via the bank guards in Arnika and I pop out of the bank (to sell ill-gotten supplies from the dead corpses of the guards) when lo and behold I'm attacked by Savant Gunners and Savant Berserkers.

Bear in mind that the character level was 8 and I had only not leveled up for one level - in otherwords had I leveled-up it would have been character level 9.

Remember were not talking about troopers, lower level henchmen, or lower level drones - these were Gunners and Berserkers.

Think thats bad?

They were ALL level 21!!!!!!!!! (the term "Mighty" takes on a whole new meaning with that disparity in level.)

Fortunetly there were "only" two berserkers. As it turned out I was able to run to a patrol before getting waxed. This allowed me a "refresher" via potions and I could hide behind the patrol for a bit and only provide occasional additional hit-support. The patrol and I also got very lucky in that all of the gunners ran away (presumably because of my high stealth). Still - it took an hour real-time for that battle with those two Berserkers and in the end one patroler lost his life and 3 of us were left paralyzed for several minutes after the battle had ended. Shear luck that ANY of us survived. But in the end those two Berserkers doubled my experience points. Now however I'm extremely paranoid about moving around Arnika - I mean there are still 5 level 21 gunners out there.....

Has anyone else "experienced" something similar?

Scott, this is a known bug. I don't remember all the details of it, but it is triggered by entering Arnika at too low a level, I believe. To avoid it, level up to where you have earned just before entering Arnika, if you haven't done so previously.

I think it triggers at Level 3 or 4, but I'm not sure about Level 5. It's one of those "wraparound" type errors that are still in the final game.

There might be one or two more high level groups out there in Arnika. I'm not sure if sleeping a few times (at your current level) helps that. It might.

Good luck!

Yes, sleeping helps. Current mobs usually wander off after a day.

Three out of one characters were paralyzed?
(well, you're probably talking about you and the guards)

Well, i only heared from this bug when entering Arnika. But the reason seems to be that the character(s) have very high skill points at very low character levels. So probably the group was created when you entered arnika at a very low llevel. If not, if the group was generated later, it has to be a result of your training and the resulting high skill (although i didn't hear about such a case before)

This happened to me twice in Arnika. When you lev more than one lev at a time in Arnika there is a chance some very high lev enemies are created. Yes, a bug. I once ran into lev 27 or so humanoids when the party also was about lev 8. The party was squashed in about 2 rounds. They will go away if you rest a few cycles (in a safe place). Or, as Wereboar suggests, lev up just before entering Arnika.

When encountering a high level group if you can get a couple of town guards to fight with you and then go away far from them, they might kill one or two before they die you would get a lot of XP, and since you are far from combat you could run into a shop/sheltered place to end combat and get the XP. Then you could try this again

I think I entered at level 6 and then did a double level-up to level 8. So it sounds as if Ziggurat's correct in this instance. Uggg, it might be much worse on my next level-up. I'm currently a Ninja (again) to max critical strike and the last 10 percent in Stealth. Both will take quite a while (probably a minimum of 5 levels) - makes me think I should go out to the road when I level up.

and yes Wereboar - I was referencing the patrol peeps as well.

Odd note.

Its happening all the time. give 24 hours of cycle time in Arnika and up pops 2 level 21 Slashers - I called them Berserkers b4 but their actually called Slashers).

I've taken them on about 6 times now and there are very few patrols left (I think 3 patrolers and 1 lay brother), at this rate I'll have to grab the card and hide behind the patrols in the HLL base pretty soon.

maybe your game is broken. Reinstall may fix it, but if the save itself is messed up, darn...

I don't think its the double level-up. I too did it sometimes. I enven did 5 levle-ups in one of my last parties (from level 11 to 16). I never encountered such a thing.

My guess is that the game not only checks your level, but also your skills. If you have higher skills, the enemies get stronger. I case of a well-trained solo character, this might lead to strange results.
