Since I wasn't allowed to watch most horror movies when I was little, I watch a lot of them all the time now. I let my 6 year old son watch some of them with me, but not the really gory ones. What I can't understand is something he said about one I let him take to his grandma's to watch.
I let him take "Frankenstein's Monster Meets the Wolfman" to my mom's to watch while he was staying with her. When I asked my son if he liked it, he said he turned it off because the wolfman creeped him out. This is a kid that watched "Poltergeist", "American Werewolf in London", "Sleepy Hollow", and several others with no problems! Could the black and white film make it somehow seem more real or what?

Me too, I remember that I was allowed to watch lot of horror films as a kid... (and just look at me now... ) but I never wanted to watch the black and white ones, they were much scarier...somehow.

That is interesting isn't it! Maybe having colour on the screen makes it easier for us to discern what is real and what is not! Or maybe those old movies were simply more chilling than the more recent teenage friendly ones, with their modern music and cheap laughs, or maybe we're just reading into it too much. It's just kind of funny that Lon Chaney's werewolf that mostly just grew furry could be more creepy than the stretching, twisting, and screaming of the guy in "American Werewolf in London".
Also, he has a fit when I try to test my fangs for my costume. Even though I showed them to him first and he saw me put them on! Same with fake blood, he yell, "don't put that fake blood on or I'll be mad!" I did notice him wake up late one night, and he said he'd had a bad dream about Alice Cooper. *Reminds self to listen to more Ozzy instead* [ 10-28-2002, 11:21 PM: Message edited by: The Ornery One ]

For me, its the soundeffects, they are freaky, and the music is pretty damn scary. But what is a Poltergeist?

I think it's probably the colors.
A) He's used to watching color movies, that are very "true-to-life", so when he sees a black-and-white movie, it's like being plunged into a whole other world. B) I always found that black-and-white movies accented the darks, making them creepier. If he doesn't like the Wolfman, don't let him see Gaslight. I was 13 when I watched that and it still freaks me out.
