Hello there!

I have been soloing BG2 with Stalker Ranger Kit (Core difficulty). The game is spiced up with Tactics, Ascension and several other mods. Improved Irenicus encounter in hell is causing lot of pain for my melee oriented character. I can't figure out how to destroy that magical sword. I'm assuming that magic damage is needed for destroying that thing, but I don't have items that deal enough magical damage to it. Ring of Ram, Ring of Energy and Wand of magic missiles just are not enough.

I tried to find info from these forums for soloing improved irenicus, but I didn't seem to find any tips for a melee characters. All help is appreciated.

I've never tried tactics yet, but I think I read somewhere about hints being a .txt file where you downloaded and installed/extracted it to

A solo Warrior doesn't have a chance against the Sword of Greed. Pretty much your only option is to have obtained Sanchuudoku earlier in the game, and drop Sanchu on the ground in Hell before inserting the final Tear, because the Sword of Cheese is really the only way that a pure Warrior can defeat the Sword of Greed.

If you're up for a bit of cheese, and are capable of it, you should really try to wear the ugraded Corthala armor for this encounter. All's fair in love, war, and a solo character against Tactics battles.

If I remember correctly I did try Sanchuudoku, hmm. Or maybe not. I have to try that again, thanks for the tip!

I'm also wearing upgraded Corthala armor

That is true! Read those .txt hint files that come with your Tactics install. After that: Pray.

Necklace of Missiles also works against the Sword. Be sure to recharge it though. You do know where to find it, right?

Looking good, I found a save game just before going to Tree of Life in Suldenesselar. I just have to pay a visit to Trademeet and pick up that necklace.

Unfortunately I can't currently test any of these tactics, because I'm playing BG1 game with tutu installed.

Thanks for your help!
