I can't start ToB!!!

I have this huge prob I can't start ToB I have installed it all from the beginning and when I press the play button it says:
"Bgmain has caused a problem in MSVCCRT40.DLL
Bgmain is shut down"
and then it says again the same thing but with another file: MSVBVM50.DLL
2 times and then it says it again but with this file NIL32.CLL
and then it cloeses
plzzz help me some1

I suspect a driver glitch, try updating your graphics drivers. Other than that, it might be a corrupted install.

MSVCRT40.DLL is a Microsoft C++ file
MSVBVM50.DLL is a Visual Basic file
And NIL32.CLL, I don't know what that is. Even Google doesn't know what that is. Sounds like it might be a Norton file, but?

Did you update, ToB to the latest patch? This will eliminate any errors that Bioware is aware of, but it sounds to me like you've got bigger problems.

I used to have a similar(if not the same) problem. what i did was either get the newest patch or the no-cd patch from Gamecopyworld. i have no idea why it did that, but it started working after that.

My problem is different, but more frustrating.
I have installed TOB, and can play it, but none of the speech shows up on the screen.
All I have seen is:

Character bleeps into existance. I click on a head and then I get a brown page that takes up 3/4 of the screen where dialogue should be, and a button on the bottom that says "continue". This happens three times, then I wander around and run into a person. I can't tell what she says, but I can click randomly into the brown mass and my name pops up with nothing behind it as I say something. If I do this three times she gets angry and attacks me. Either this is the way the game starts (with the character deaf and mildly retarded) or there's something wrong...
I've checked and un-checked just about everything in the "Config" program to no avail. My computer's slow, but it shows the graphics fine, just not the words...
Help.

O.K. So I decided to use some of this "common sense" that's going around, and downloaded both patches from blackisle's website, and lo and behold it fixed it! Who'd a thought...
