Default Vets, Outlook for GI Bill Implementation

For those of you who are awaiting the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the wait appears to be extended, again, thou the bill still takes effect 1 AUG 09. Like many, some of you, myself included, may have already selected when, where, and what you plan to study. However, this may cause a later start date, or out of pocket expenses while awaiting your package to be processed.

Inadequate staffing can potentially delay claims processing.” Considering that GI Bill claims can already run 20 or more weeks behind, this does not offer much hope.
If you are not fully tracking it, get your BA now with what you can, use TA if you are eligible. Use Post-9/11 for your grad work. However, if you qualify and use or have used Ch. 31, it will substantially reduce your Post-9/11 benefits. I have been briefed that if Ch. 31 has been used, the amount of time used will be directly deducted from Post-9/11, which has a 36 month duration.

Furthermore, if you qualify for Ch. 30 you will have to decide.
Quote:
If you are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and other GI Bill benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) you will at some point be required to make an irrevocable choice of which benefit you wish to receive.

It is important to note that the Post-9/11 GI Bill will not go into effect until August 1, 2009. Veterans with multiple benefit options will not be required to make a choice at this time. The VA will notify such veterans when they will be required to choose.
And of course.
Quote:
* In earlier copies of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, it was stipulated that members would be able to stop making enrollment payments for the MGIB. This stipulation was removed from the law. This means that those servicemembers who are currently paying the $100 a month enrollment fee will be required to continue making payments until the $1,200 enrollment fee is paid in full.
