I watched the debate last night and one of the questions asked directly to the candidates was on the issue of abortion. Kerry had emphasized his Catholic upbringing earlier, though he took a different view on gay marriage than President Bush did.
After hearing that, my wife said "He's going to win. Kerry is going to win the election. He is going to get the gay vote AND he is Catholic."
That's when I reminded her that Kerry's view on abortion was going to cost him the "Catholic vote". I hadn't seen an article like this before, but the Catholic view on abortion is well known and there is NO "wiggle room".
When discussing his Catholic upbringing and education, Kerry said "I went to Catholic school. I learned to respect their principles...but I disagree with them."
BOOM!!! Right there is where he lost the Catholic vote.
