I know it's generally inadvisable to multiclass a spellcaster, at least more than a level or two, but what's the most you would ever multiclass one of your main spellcasters?

For instance, let's say you wanted a Paladin/Sorcerer who was primarily a Sorcerer. How many Paladin levels could you add without thinking you gave too many?

What about divine spellcasters? Let's say a Barbarian/Druid, for example?
