Yeah there is almost a tax for everything here in Australia.

They ahve fixed the Stamp duty on first home buyers who are buying a house under $500 000. So in that regards my wife and I are lucky that we don't have to pay the stamp duty.

There are also tranfer taxes when transfering the registration of a car into another persons name (i.e you have just sold it) You would think that something as simple as transfering the name on a car registration would be a fixed rate yet they charge us 30 cents to the dollar value of the sale to transfer the registration on the car.
