Sir, I have also had remarkable difficulty adjusting to the Hong-Kong-Fooey atmosphere that Yoshimo presents. If they had given him a voice actor with a Japanese or Japanese-flavor accent to match the flavor of his name, that'd be one thing. (of course, how much realism do you want in a D&D setting? These are the folks who still think that longswords weigh ten pounds, and that the katana is inarguably the greatest sword in teh cosmos...)
But of the two I have definitely found Jan to be more useful. I don't tend to do lots of sneaking, on the other hand: we have a very aggressive party. Also, if you're light on magic, he can work that angle. Using a crossbow vs. a bow is an interesting equipment issue, as well.
