I've had chests go off that kill enemies around me but don't hurt me ... I'd say a lot has to do with your magical resistances (mine are usually fairly high, even for fighters).
@dragon2005: Yeah, I get the Erathsmedor freeze as well -- it seems to be architecture dependent, because not many people have problems with him. In fact, I remember one other complaint about it, besides mine, from blue board days. [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]
