If you think that there are not enough good axes or warhammers, item creation is now able to handle this. Simply create custom items. There are plenty of good swords and a lot of good pole weapons but not much elsewhere.

Ditto if you want an item with an identity suitable to your favorite race or class.

I am making a fair bit of progress in decrypting D6Item.dat, the relevant post is being updated regularly. The first line must be updated every time that you create a new item. It is little - end first, thus "89 + 3" equals 89 +(3*256) =857.
