There is absolutely no difference between a single-player game and a multi-player game in NWN.

The saves you have can be loaded in single- or multi-player at any time...and by using "Save Character" you can transfer an exact copy of your PC at the point of a particular save or in the middle of a mod, and use him in a multiplyaer game. Then, if you wanted to use the developed character and put him back in your single-player game, just load the previous save under Multiplayer and import your newly saved PCinto the game to override the old, outdate version of your PC who is in the game save.
