It does do both, online and not online. It has online games that you can also download and play alone. Thousands maybe, with more being added all the time. The reason is that NWN also has a third feature. You can build your own worlds with almost no real training (the more you learn the better your game can be built)...and then you can e-mail that to friends to play or make it available to play online with you. I cannot say enough about the game.
NWN is the best game out there for all kinds of people.
