Football boots do affect the game you play quite a lot I think - but it's like most things - once you get up to a certain quality level, any further improvement is going to make little or no difference in the way you play.
Badminton is my main sport. Now if you play with a £10 racket and then a £40 racket the difference is huge but you won't notice that much difference between the £40 racket and a £120 racket.
