Where are you? If you are in the main temple then you can get out of the front door or the back door, no problem.
If you are in the undertemple, after killing the Naga, you need to:
1. Open the door to the maze by using the lever above the fountain.
2. Find the button to activate one of the three 'dead' lifts in the maze.
3. Use the lift to kill the priest with the skull key and activate the other two lifts.
(Make sure you retrieve the Tome of Fire from the maze treasury)
4. Open the locked door and kill the High Priestess (the one with the Masque).
5. Exit through the locked gate near the library.
The locked gate to the undertemple near the back door cannot be opened at all, ignore it.
