I have a Ge Force annihilator 256 Pro. In the "graphics" options, I can't use any of the D3D options, I have to set it to "software driver" otherwise the game just locks up all the time. (And yes I do have the latest drivers!)
Visually I can't see much difference to the game. Have you tried running it under this option?
