You've been given some good advice, but one tiny thing that I want to add:
If a toad person gets in your way in the underground toad tunnels and is preventing you from going forward, either try and 'push' it away or kill it with one spell (flamestrike or elemental blast should do well) in one shot, so he can't call for help.
Keep us posted on how your adventures go.
I am looking forward to hearing about your first meeting with the salads some time in the future. Don't worry about them. Yet.
