Entreri is absolutly correct, but just in case you have not found scrolls:

To make those beasties vulnerable you should poison them. To do it set that engine (or what is it) near Air laboratory to its highest position (just click on it the second time with Staff of Air), and then open doors between Air laboratory and Slime laboratory - poison clouds will go to the ice monsters and then you can hurt them with your weapons.
