You need ActiveX for that. Meaning, you need IE or Netscape which both have it (which is a bad idea). You're honestly better off not using these things, because they present an obvious security problem in their very function (even if these particular things are overt about it, others don't have to be): they have access to files on your harddrive from a remote system. Use a real anti-virus, you'll be better off for it.
