Personally, I believe the arguments that support the idea that Texas can secede, as can any other State; this argument is both legal and constitutional because this nation is actually a political union of smaller political subsets, not one large group based in Washington, D. C.

Realistically, of course, secession will never happen for a couple of reasons: 1) you will never find anyone willing to be the first one to take that step, 2) the national military would step in and force the rogue State back into the Union at gunpoint, and 3) any foreign nation backing a State in secession would potentially lead to a full shooting war with the United States.

Honestly, I am not certain what NPR is trying to do with this article. Are they trying to drum up anti-Texas or pro-United States sentiments? Or both? Is this a subtle ploy to get a show of hands about which people are willing to support secession so they can be targeted by the government later?

I wouldn't mind if Texas did secede, but we would have to partner closely with Mexico and it would be a wildly difficult first 10 years until things begin to settle down.

Final analysis: it will never happen. At the very least, by the time it does happen there wouldn't be any way to save the United States as it currently exists--we would be beyond the point of no return.
yeah but One can hope Don't mess with Texas... Unless you're the Crimson Tide
